Sciatica and Leg Pain

Sciatica is severe pain casued by compression, irritation, or inflamation of the sciatic nerve.  The sciatic nerves are the largest and longest nerves in the body.  each sciatic nerve is composed of five smaller nerves that leave the spinal cord from teh lower spinal column, join together, and rn down the back of each leg.  Eash nerve then divides into many smaller nerves that travel to the thigh, knee, calf, ankle, foot and toes.  Sciatica occurs when these large nerves are irritated by pressure from spinal bones or nearby soft tissue.

People with sciatica can suffer from a wide range of symptoms.  The pain may come and go or may be constant.  Some people may feel only a dull ache or numbness, others feel intense shooting pain.  The pain may run down your back into the buttocks and uper leg, and may travel down the leg into the foot and toes.

Sciatic pain often originates in the lower back.  Commonaly, a misalignment of one or more of the lumbar vertebrae causes pressure on the nerve as it leaves the spinal cord.  Dr. Tim Erickson offers a free initial analysis to those suffering from sciatic problems.  Print off a copy of our Free Visit Coupon and visit our office soon.
